USP Motorsports Fluidamprs - engine dampers +10 Wheel hp!
« on: September 28, 2009, 12:20:42 pm »
Came across a site offering an engine damper which apparently will add gains of 3-10whp and 5-13ft/lbs. of torque depending on your current setup.

The USP Motorsports engine damper carries the following benefits:
-Decreased engine vibration. No more flywheels, crank trigger wheels, or timing gears falling off of the crankshaft. This was unavoidable when revving past 8000rpm in the past.

-Decreased "Clutch/Gear Box Chatter" which is caused by lightweight single mass flywheels.

-Reduction in rpm drops when shifting in a competitive environment.

-Gains of 3-10whp and 5-13ft/lbs. of torque depending on your current setup.

-An overall more efficent and relieable engine.

More info here -  http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4525419

Any one care to elaborate or want to give it a go?

surprised no one is interested in this!

most of us cant get past the rev limiter to get near this (nor should we on standard internals perhaps?), not really a mk5 issue

we all run dual mass heavyweight OE flywheels...

Its a good mod , but of limited benefit for the outlay thats probably why the limited interest......

not mk5 issue? the kit is made for the golf mk5... and was built designed and tested on one ..

maybe they were using a new valve and camshaft kit to up the rev limit etc

ah ok cool, my 'not mk5' comment was in ref  to 'No more flywheels, crank trigger wheels, or timing gears falling off of the crankshaft.' which I thought was more mk4 related.

just trying to add input as to why you have limited interested , would be nice to have though...

An engine damper?  presuming that it is just a engine mount of some sort, or isd it just a lighter pulley.

I think it's a replacement pullywheel for the end of the crankshaft to reduce torsional vibration.  We use a similar type of thing at work on the industrial diesels.

There has to be a crank pulley that is balanced to the crank.. Surely VAG managed to do this when they designed the engine?

An unbalanced crank pulley, meaning pulley that is specifically balanced to that crank (generally a light weight pulley) can literally induce so much torsional vibration into the bottom end that it can snap the crank into two pieces..

Sorry, but that is utter snake oil.

Your standard GTI/Eddy/S3 engine already has one of these fitted as STANDARD!

EVERY one of their claims is utter bull sh!t. :fighting:
