Nah, still only gets around that if i reset it just before a 20mile motorway journey Mike.  

Why did i get the 123d again? Oh well, at least its powerful. I guess you cant have everything. Slightly frustrating is that i used to get 46-48mpg on my Scirocco GT TSI on a motorway commute and up to 55mpg in my Polo GTI.

Ive seen most people get an average of around 45mpg on longer commutes.

The OBC can be very far out though so ive read, so im going to see what it is in real terms once i know how much i get out of a full tank.

Yes, 40mpg is pretty good considering. But thats moddy cuddling it. I reckon i could get into the 20s on the commute if i tried.

My cousin (Apparoon) on here had a 123d coupe for a couple of years and iirc his average mpg was in the low 40s..

I've tried quite a few 'sporty' diesels of late in the hunt for our new car and come away pretty underwhelmed by the economy offered tbh,
I think the problem lies with the quest to narrow the gap between 'performance' diesels and their petrol equivalents, turning up the wick to provide petrol like power and driveability coupled with the achilles heel of modern diesels the dpf means that the usual reason for choosing a diesel for economy is no longer clear cut given the compromises of noise, slow warm up etc that you have to put up with..?

Fuel consumption for the Focus was mentioned, so i also thought id say that i would be reluctant to get another VW as there are more exciting cars out there.

Seems to be the Petrol's are closer to their Official Combined Cycle Figures in real driving.

My GTI is generally around 30 MPG which is 85% of Official figure of 35.3 MPG.

So back on topic...

Didn't Evo do a head to head of the Mountune ST v the MK2 RS a short while back and they were pretty much neck and neck for time over distance and on track Rich?

Yeah RS is 300 and iirc the furthest Mountune can/will take an ST is 290

Thats the thing... the ST i drove was the 260 mountune version. Yet barely a sausage in it and my "311" bhp.

I've got the episode on my shelf somewhere amongst' the stack, but I remember it being absolutely parr with the 300hp RS. It might even have been the 260hp Mountune they had but that might be speculation. Either way, there was nothing in it between the two over long stretches either...

I'll see if I can dig it out.

Think I've read previously the Mountune packages do have more oomph than they suggest on paper. Not wanting to step on the RS's toes for instance was the reason I think!
