Wheel pressure sensors!? Changing wheels.

Can anyone tell me, what happens when you change the standard wheels to non VW ones, do you then get the light permantly on the dash, etc??
Or is it once the sensor inside the tyres reads low pressure it then sends the signal out to say check tyres.
Just thought wouldn't want that permantly on the dash.

there are no  'sensors' in the wheels.
The car determines the rolling speed of each wheel using the ABS sensors.
Any change (e.g. a flat or deflating tyre) will effect the speed the tyre rotates =  a change relative to the other wheels = light somes on.
In order to 'reset' the car , you just hold the button down for it to relearn the rotational speeds of all 4.
You are therefore free to choose any wheels tyres you want (offset/clearance etc issues aside)

I am changing from 17s to 18 alloys soon, do I need to do anything to alter the speedometer, or will it adjust itself then?

if you use the correct size tyre the rolling diameter of the wheel will not change so no need to do anything with the speedo

He would of had to kop himself for speeding.    ( only kiddin just make sure your tyre wall size comes down by 5 from what you have now.  )
