Who makes the OEM discs/pads?
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:42:07 am »
Hi Folks,

Car is in at the garage just now and apparently needs new pads & discs all round.

Just under £500 supplied and fitted.

Don't mind spending that for decent discs, like EBC Ultimax or Pagids or etc.  But not keen on spending that if they are Yangkangningnongs or something.

Does anyone know what the actual make of the OEM discs are.  Garage can only tell me they are Volkswagen.

Cheers!

Dave.

Haggle like mad. Sounds like a lot of money. Coincendece that front and back are worn out at the same time..

I'd be after a second opinion and/or doing it myself. Its not difficult, even VW garages can do it!!!

IMO, The discs aren't as important as the pads for this sort of application.
I'd be getting a set of brembo plain discs and some nice pads up front; Tarox Corsa / Ferodo DS2500 or similar. :happy2:

I think the actual manufacturer of OEM discs and pads varies - depends on who gets the contract at any given time. when i had mine changed, the rears were Pagid - yet a year later, when i had the fronts done, it was Bosch...

Hope this helps

Rich

Bit expensive TBH. A fair few peeps do the OE pads and discs. Get the lot yourself and go to a Indy Specialised to fit the lot. Loads on eBay, type in "Mk5 golf GTI discs pads", they go from £100 for a complete of front and rear discs and front and rear pads.

I don't reckon fitting will be £400 on top!

I've just put some Pagid Discs and pads on the Cupra (345mm) got the nbits from Euros, £139 for them both. The rear is even cheaper.

I'm going to do the discs on the TT too, i picked up the pads for that £25 irc Pagid again and will get the discs soon.
