Heater problem
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:49:53 pm »
Hi guys, unfortunately, i think my new (to me) car has a problem with the heating system. When i start the car, and say for example it's on 22 degrees both side and on auto, it will heat up to and maintain this temperature - if i get too warm and turn it down lower (16 for example), the heater get extremely hot to the point where i can't even hold my hand over the vents for very long. It is then stuck on this temperature no matter what temp is chosen or where the air is directed too, ac on makes no difference too. If i then turn the car off and then back on again, it will maintain the temperature selected but will go hot if moved again.

Any ideas? I'm getting the car scanned with vcds hopefully on saturday, so this might show what's wrong.

The heater system is controlled by a series of electronic flap motors together with temperature sensors.
Prob a flap motor or temp sensor not working as it should.
In vcds, in addition to the fault codes, there is a function test that operates each flap in turn.
You can also use the measuring blocks to see whats going on.

Thanks. So there's a specific 'test' for the flaps to make sure they are working as they should?

As for the measuring blocks, is there a guide for what the measuring blocks should be reading? I'm not the most clued up person on vcds you might have gathered lol.

In vcds there is a sequential test that operates each flap in turn.
Not sure on the measuring blocks, ill have a look and get back to you.

Thanks, but it's alright. I've put it into the garage, under warranty. I also plugged into vagcom and it came up with a fault code for the drivers side heater control/sensor/flap thingy...
