views on polo 1.6tdi
« on: February 08, 2013, 07:00:34 pm »
Hi guys. Im looking for a new car for the wife and the polo 1.6tdi looks a nice motor. Been looking at 59plates as they are in our price range. I have read a few reviews and they are saying that the engine in that car aint that good. Has anyone had any experience of one? Any feedback is greatly appreciated as always.

Regards Gaz

I had a demo Fabia Monte Carlo with the 105bhp 1.6tdi for the day, great car and a great little engine imo, brother in law ended up ordering one that day based on him driving it  :happy2:
Currently rocking around in a Caddy van with the 1.6tdi fitted, had it for nearly 2 weeks now and been very impressed with the power and mpg, also in the Fabia at least the 75bhp and 105bhp engines are identical apart from mapping differences, both remap to 135bhp  :happy2:

Can you map these via the port yet ? Thought the ecu had to come out and apart until recently. Also thinking of one of these for the wife soon ( once her Dune sells ).

My father in law has the 1.2 tdi and he loves it. He said to avoid the 1.6. I cant help but think that the 1.2 would be pants on a m/way journey though.

Don't rule out the 1.2tsi in either 85 or 105 spec, great little engine and almost diesel mpg without the worry of dpf issues if you only do short journeys etc  :happy2:

135hp with very mild map is easy, Our stg2 software (with stock engine) makes 160bhp on the 1.6cr, yet to do stage 3 which will include DPF removal

It's in so many cars across the VAG range and has been now for a few years especially in the bluemotion Golf that is must be a fairly safe bet

I like it, in the smaller chassis cars it feels great and well balanced. Fuel economy, cheap tax, cheap insurance, ample power hike with some mapping.... what more could you want?

I drove an A1 with 1.6tdi and felt it very underpowered.
