Normally use shell v power or tesco momentum. If I'm desperate I use anyone else's premium unleaded. As said above when you actually work out how much more 5p/l is per tank it isn't a lot at all

I just got my GTi ED30 too. I'm on my second tank, first tank got 380 miles with a few hard blasts in between. This tank i'm just about to finish and will get approx 410 miles, have a quick blast (nothing crazy) most days too. I think this is excellent economy for such a car like this.
that's more than im getting, prob averaging around 320 per tank, well until light comes on i should say,
is your figures until the tank is empty or until the fuel light comes on ?

as hedge says an extra £2.50 for a cleaner higher octane fuel that probably evens out your mpg anyway makes all the sense
 :happy2:

Tank empty figures. Ran a friend to a night out tonight and had to do a lot of low speed/stop start driving, fuel light came on at 370 miles. Got 400 out tank, will have to fill up tomorrow, only 5 miles left now.

Right, after all this I will put the higher price stuff in it. I compromised and put normal BP fuel in it for now. Cheaper than Ultimate, but better quality fuel than Tesco. Next week when I get paid it will be high-quality all the way.

Thanks guys!  :driver:

I tend to alternate between 1 lot of Tesco Momentum 99 (it's only 5p more than Tesco standard) and Shell V Power (10p more than Shell standard) But in the past I have always avoided supermarket fuel, but reading posts on here people say its fine, but it still feels alien to put Tesco in.

It's probably just hearsay, but I heard that supermarkets can sell their fules cheaper because they get the fuel close to the end of it's shelf-life.

Apparently Tesco 99 is made specially for them by an outside company, so might be decent, they even sponsor BTCC team MG who Jason Plato drives for.

Anything High Octane.

I tend to stay away from the normal 95 stuff, tends to cause misfires and I've got this thing in my head where if something costs more....its generally better.

I used asda 95 octane for a year or so before I joined this forum and learnt the error of my ways. The car should run fine on 95 as the engine compensates but it's not the recommended fuel to use. When I switched to v power the mpg improved by 2, which I calculated was about the same as the extra cost - so £ per mile was the same. If you're going to put premium fuel in then v power or tesco is best as they are 99ron, BP is only 97ron (hence why you've seen it's cheaper).

VW actually recommend 98 or higher for the gti. My fuel flap info says 98 as the preference and 95 as the second choice. I have heard more than once that long term use of regular unleaded can cause head gasket problems on the gti.

Shell V Power every time! :happy2:

Have owned my Edition 30 for few months and there Is only one Shell petrol station located on the opposite side of he city, but I would never substitute the fuel that goes in for cheap fuel!  :driver:
