Failed mot today

Had the car up for mot today and on arrival I was greater by a grumpy old man who did not say hello he just grunted. He took the car on through aNd then proceeded to ask me (is this car one of those modified cars ) were I said sort of and at that the chat stopped. 15 minutes had passed and he called me over only to tell me that the car had failed because the front wishbone bush had a bit of play in it, he then said it was because of the big wheels that this had happened and that the car was not made for them!!! Now my blood started to boil and I turned to him and said the they come from the factory with 18" wheels on them as standard and that mr v wagon should have anticipated this. The same man couldn't workout how the seat belt worked with my daughter child seat.

Grumpy old men should not be putting car throug the mot if they have no idea how they work. Rant over thanks for reading the end

If I hadn't of taken the appointment I would have had to wait for another date, and I didn't know grumpy bollocks was working there.

My mate (who served his time at our local VW Dealership and worked there for 9 years) has just bought a MK4 1.8T as a runabout. When he did the deal the garage agreed they would do a full service before he picked it up

When he went to pick it up he had a quick flick through the service book and saw they had stamped the Haldex Service part. He asked the salesman about it who said  "Oh yeah, were very thorough here, we've done absolutley everything" to which my mate replied "Well thats awfully kind of you, thanks for fitting a 4WD system to my car and then fully servicing a brand new system!"

The salesman didn't know what to do or say

As an ex employer of at least 3 MOT testers in the past an MOT tester should not be stopping a test 15 minutes through to tell you it has failed.
He should be completing the test without stopping to comment on specific parts etc.
When a car is MOT'D it is logged onto the mot test centre and the tester then has a certain amount of time to complete the test and log the details, i think it is around 50 minutes, if he doesnt do this in time the test will be void, if he is going to stop and discuss every little thing he is unhappy about and get into a discussion then he could easily breach his time allowance.
I am assuming you failed in the end and need repairs ( in his opinion ) for it to pass ?
Obviouslly you will not be using that garage again, with regards to your seat belt on the child seat - just fyi you should not have ANY child seats in the car when presenting it for test as the mot testers are not allowed BY LAW to remove the seat belt in order to test its functionality incase it is put back onto the child seat incorrectly.
The car wont fail the test for this but they will usually put it down as an advisory.
As for his comment on the 18i wheels, what a twat,,, sounds like he was just jealous of your ride

lol that's a classic, i used to sell cars for Arnold Clark and you are told just to bullsh*t your way through things,,, that's a cracker though

Sorry should have said I am in Belfast Northern Ireland and the mot test over here is over in 15 mins but its very thorough lol

lights alone take at least a few minutes and thats if he has mirrors everywhere and not relying on a helper.
wow, 15 minutes,,, that's mad lol, i would love to watch an mot in progress.
not saying they cant do it but i would be amazed to actually see it in the flesh and with it being as thorough as the uk.

after everything is tested on the machines, the mot tester spends about 5-8 mins of the time going over everything by checking it on a ramp...

It feels alot longer when your sitting watching & waiting... for the green light...

Na 15 mins scares the sh*t out of me, i would want it gone over more carefully.
The government are thinking of bringing in a law that you only require an mot every 2 years instead of 1 
can you imagine your safety is reliant on a 15 minute check every 2 years 
that doesnt fill me with confidence.
I bought my car about 4 months ago and it had 8 months mot on it, i didnt trust the salesman so i got the car re-mot'd the next day at my local garage as i trust the mot tester there.
The car passed easily but it gave me a full condition check from someone i trusted and meant i fealt a lot safer for £55, never trust a car salesman lol - 99% of them are driven by greed.
Should have seen the salesmans face who sold me the car when i told him i was getting an mot the day after i bought it, a mixture of worry and disbelief lol.
