If i was to get these moulded
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:08:45 am »
Just out of curiosty really if i was to get these molded so reproduction would be easier would anyone be interested at all for a simple solution to upgrade there audio and still keeping 90% of there boot practical.

Obviously i'm not sure on cost but i'd keep it as low as possible, ust wondered what peoples thoughts were really wheather something like this would appeal to alot of people or not.

Any input welcome i know cost will be a big issue like it is with anything.

I just need to make the desicion soon before i trim mine up really.

Ignor the middle panel i would just be doing the profiled sub box and the profiled amp rack, sorry about the bobbins photography lol.

Will look really nice when finished up. I'd love to have one, but with 2 young children, I really need by boot space for the pushchair etc!

The sub box is for a 10" i could make it in such a way i could spin the baffle off to suit the sub. most common 10" subs would work in around a cubic ft box so it would work with most, It was just an idea i was bouncing off people it may take a little development.

I usually build things specifically for the equipment and sub/amp etc but thought this may be an easy solution for a quick setup for people.

Not at the minute, i havn't had time to breath lately, if you are in desperate need for one i could build you another one off like mine no problems.

As soon as i have 5 minutes i'll sit down with my mould maker and get the ball rolling but i would of said it'd of took a couple of months to get the mould perfect ad get them inot production etc.

Cheers

your only real competition would be from stealthbox

and their stuff is good, but hyped and mostly poorly produced and too expensive

when i was hunting for a solution i discovered quite quickly that unless you buy JL with suited enclosure then it was pretty much stealthbox or nothing for the UK market

<<---- if you peek at 'my ride' thread and look at mine (built for a 13.5" sub) i got that done and finished for £200 (just the enclosure) and i paid for materials

sounds cheap but thats only because i had other stuff done so when totalled it worked out better than done individually and cheaper than stealhbox too

i'm waffling i know, but personally i think if you offer it with size to suit (8/10/12/13.5 etc) and done acurately for volume then you could be onto a genuine money spinner

as long as you make sure you dont foul the parcel shelf - worth noting here that the ball on the parcel shelf string when the boot is shut acts like a wrecking ball if the sub is not protected, i tuck mine into the net on the underside of the shelf but will be retro fitting MK4 golf retractable strings to solve it.

and that the boot carpet can still be lifted if needed too

long story short, offer the sizes, carpeted, with photo fit instructions and you will rule ebay buddy  :happy2:

should have just said that from the start

Thats a great writeup mate alot of information there,

I'll need to see how much the stealth box's are, if i was to do another one,  specific for the sub it would be around the £400 plus vat  built and trimmed as a one off. (could trim it in carpet to match back of seats etc of a vinal that matches all the surrounding plastics.)

I'd like to think getting them moulded would reduce the costs quite a bit but it may not be as tailored to each application as it'd be done as a run of boxes.

The one at the minute allows the shelf to work fine.

Thankyou very much dude for the input it's been very infomative and will allow me to carry on the idea and development on this project.

the finish and fit will be spot on or i'd scrap the lot and the idea before releasing it to other people.

with the work ive seen so far you'll have no worries with the quality control  :happy2:

a definate gap in the market, i talked to the guy that did mine about churning a few out and he shy'd away from the task as its quite an undertaking and he doesnt do audio for a living only as a hobby so simply not practical

hopefully i didnt come across as slating stealthbox, wasnt my intention, merely to point out the competitor you'd face, but imho looking at what youve done and what they offer i would chose one of yours if the fitment was proved  :happy2:

not that i need one now  :P bloody typical
