My 140bhp Mk5 vs My mrs's 130 bhp Ibiza FR
« on: February 12, 2013, 09:56:22 pm »
Evening all...
I have just driven my mrs's car for the first time in ages... I always had respect for these motors as I used to drive it a lot and loved it back then, since owning my golf I havent been back behind the wheel of it for about a year so tonight with my mrs feeling rough it gave me a great excuse to get in the hotseat and drive it as it should be driven :)

Well I wish I hadn't...

It felt so much more responsive than my golf it threw my head back in the seat and put a smile on my face through every gear and every corner.

I'm guessing the obvious is its got more torque...? Right?

Just wondering why it feels so much better than my car which on paper has 10 more ponies... ?

Are the turbo's bigger? Is it the stiffer suspension which makes it seem quicker or is it actually quicker? Can someone shed some light for me :)

Thanks all :)

The ibiza is a lot lighter, so will probably be faster. Also, the lack of sound deadening in the ibiza makes it sound and feel as if you are going a lot faster. The steering in the ibiza is great, very quick and weights up nicely. I had a candy white facelift model and it was a great wee car.

Candy white

Felt nice I must say... Actually felt like I was going fast when infact I was only doing speeds that my golf is more than capable of.. I think it's unsafe to feel so comfortable at high speeds in the likes of a golf or audi.. I want to be in car that when I'm going fast it feels like it... I could happily sit there and read the paper whilst doing a tonne in my motor lol

The difference is the power delivery, plus being lighter.  The 1.9's have a very choppy delivery, with the torque coming in with a bang, which makes it feel faster than it is.  140 is a 2.0 with a 16v head is more progressive.

Was just about to come to the same conclusion  :happy2:
When I got in my mates mk4 PD130 it felt way perkier than my BKD140 on take off and more responsive to the pedal - down to the 8v and slightly lighter weight no doubt.

However, the BKD power delivery was so progressive and linear that you didn't have any effects of 'getting up to speed'.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
