New ED30 Owner - Nav Unit Upgrade Options
« on: February 13, 2013, 09:02:07 pm »
Evening all,

As the delighted 'new' owner of a lovely Black ED30 I am giving serious thought to an upgrade of the existing MFD2 (DVD) unit.

There is an Ipod dock in the armrest which works well but let's say that the functionality of the whole setup is a little old school !

It looks like my options are as follows :

 - RNS510 - looks nice but no DAB and phone prep is extra, but it is 50% of the price of the following....
 - VW Kenwood unit - all the toys, looks OEM but is a £1k investment
 - Alpine/Pioneer double-din units. All look very nice but the entry price for the all singing versions are close to the price of the Kenwood.

I've had a good look through the forums and the RNS is a favourite. Does anybody have a preferred supplier for this unit, I am a little cautious about going to Ebay  ?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

All the best,

PP

You can now get a RNS510 with DAB but they are not easy to source atm...
Without traction power is nothing!

Hi PilotPaul,

Any luck with contacting Eddie-NL?   Unfortunately as I'm new to the forum I can't yet PM Eddie-NL

I'm about to take delivery of a 2010 Scirocco with RNS510 (but without DAB or Bluetooth) and want to get hold of him to see if he can do a retrofit of a newer RNS510 unit with DAB and perhaps also install the bluetooth module and loom I have sourced (part number 5K0 035 730 D).

Mike

Thanks for the tip ! Is that a RNS 315 rather than a RCD 315 ? I wonder if my Canbus supports this model ?

If you are interested, I have a year old 'F' version coming up for sale soon with a BT module, I will be changing over to the Alpine INE-W928R.

If you add the RNS 510 and BT module, you are not that far off the price of a top of the range 8" screen Alpine with perfect integration in the VW range. which will give you much better sound quality and better upgrade options in the future.

Thanks Squeeguk for the heads-up on the RNS.

I like the look of that Alpine unit, it looks the business. I look forward to seeing the pictures post-installation.

I supplied one to Sanj last week. He will be getting his installed before me, he should have some pics up end of the week or so. I won't have time to do mine for a few weeks yet unfortunately. What do they say about a shoemaker's children???
