Golf mk5 gt tdi, coolent pipe problem.
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:44:46 pm »
Hi all as the title says I'm looking for a picture of someones engine bay with the cover off as my coolent pipe seems to be touching the alternator and I've noticed a slight burn into the pipe but not deep enough to cause a leak, tucked it up under the cover for now is there anything to protect it from touching the alternator?

Hi yes its the 2.0 140 engine, the diagram didn't help much but thank you anyway.

The problem I have is the coolent pipe seems to rest on the alternator and its got a slight burn hole in it but doesn't leak as of yet, will be getting it replaced anyway.

Here's a couple of pictures of the engine bay, and the pipe itself as it was resting and a picture of the damage caused from the heat off the alternator.

Any idea if there's anything to protect it from touching the alternator?

Thank you Jaz.

I'm just not sure if there's ment to be a bracket in between them or if that rubber grommet thing is ment to be a protector and I've tried looking online for pictures to compare them.

Looks like there is a plastic arm that holds the coolant pipe up and fixes to somewhere near the fuel filter, although mine is loose, see pic:

Other than that, the rubber bung rests on the alternator as in your pic.

Does that help?
