New here.. Another Jetta in the mix
« on: February 15, 2013, 06:28:56 pm »
Well have been lurking for a while, thought it was about time I introduced myself. I'm Mike, and I'm the owner of a 2.0 TFSI Jetta Sport with DSG. Not had the car long only a few weeks and have already made a few changes to it. I'm come from a 25th Anniversary Golf GTi which was sadly written off September of last year by a hit and run driver (£6000 worth of damage) so sadly I had to wave goodbye to her with only 43K on the clock too, very sad times indeed as it was an mint, unmolested example. So a few months past since, which involved much searching for a replacement. Always fancied a saloon has have had always had hatchbacks and then one night something caught my eye over of VWVortex. So my mind was made up, and then thou and behold a Jetta Sport turned up, 2L TFSI, with DSG, Xenons, Cruise, and the usual Sport spec. And that's where the story begins. Had the car around a month now and first job was make sure everything was in running order and then begin the mods.

So first job was to speak to my local parts guy who has helped me loads in the past and source a set of side skirts, US Spec GLi rear lower valance, Boot lip spoiler and an Edition30 front valance. 3 days later, everthing turned up and was in the bodyshop to be painted and flattened. The side skirts and rear GLi valance come textured so those needed flatting first. These were then all fitted. I guess the next step will be either change wheels and lower, but at the moment still undecided as to what wheels to run (wheels choices are a nightmare) and how much to drop? and what setup to go with? So any suggestions would be very much welcomed.

Well here are a few dodgy phone pics, taken before the rear boot lip spoiler was fitted. Hoping to get some decent pics taken with the DSLR this weekend hopefully. And I have also thrown in a picture of the 25th Anniversary which is sadly no more.

Mind your 52 plate looked really clean, shame to lose such a good looking golf.

Let's hope the Jetta is a lucky motor for you.

I hope so too! And yes it was a crying shame, always sad to see a clean, low mileage one go as there aren't too many left knocking around now I would imagine. But I had nearly 4 years with the Anni, and it never failed to put a smile on my face, do miss the old girl. I did consider buying it back and fixing it myself, but ultimately it needed a new bottom end as the force of the impact basically sheared off the lower mount which is cast into the block I was told. Cosmetically it only needed a new wing and possibly a front bumper. Sadly the steering components took the full force of the impact and pushed all the drive shafts over, killed the steering rack and so on.

Welcome. At last, another 2.0 TFSi Jetta owner. Sound like an identical spec to my car. Only thing missing on my car is the sunroof and folding mirrors, otherwise all the options. Wish I could do the sunroof.......

Like what you have done to it so far. Exactly what I have been wanting to do with regards the front end and the skirts.

Believe these are a bit thin on the ground so I believe? Yes, spec very similar, although no leather, dual climate, or full FIS clocks for me. Suppose full FIS and MFSW is something for the future I guess, along with the headunit upgrade. Like yourself sunroof would have been a fantastic addition, had one in a Mk3 GTi I had many years ago, do miss it to be honest. Folding mirrors again would be a bonus but I believe these can be retrofitted?

Thanks  As for the Jetta, Lots of small things in the pipeline, but will be kept very OEM.

This is the car in question that got me onto choosing the Jetta, as I was originally looking at ED30's

That is the inspiration!! Sourced so far, the ED30 valance, Skirts and the GLi rear, The boot spoiler on that car is the same one fitted to mine too. A Votex part I was informed by my VW parts guy. He sourced all the parts, obviously the ED30 valance being the most wallet busting part! But the rest of the kit, including the US spec rear was surprisingly cheap.  If I wanted to do the front end the same it means a GT/GTi bumper change and the GT grills. But I certainly think possibly getting it lowered and wheels being the next task possibly

Yeah, mine has leather and dual zone climate (now updated to Mk6 Climate unit). Mine also had the MFD2 which has been replaced by RNS 510, due to this being a factory option, I got the full FIS clocks too. I had to retrofit the MFSW with DSG paddles though. Best mod I have done on the car so far.

Not going to bother with the folding mirrors as they fold so little, not really worth the outlay imo. I would rather spend that money on a remap and the S3 intercooler.
