stage 1 or stage 2
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:55:02 pm »
Right i know you will probably all think this is a stupid question and to go for stage 2 but im not sure. 2 weeks ago i bought my dsg gti after coming from this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200896739665?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
shameless plug haha. Anyway it feels slow compared to the s3, much more power down low due to the smaller turbo but its lacking that kick, god i miss that! so first things first i gave it a service, put a new revision d diverter valve in and fitted a neuspeed p-flo induction kit and i was going to book it in for stage 1 in a few weeks at unicorn motor developments in stockport. But today i bought a catback milltek exhaust for a good price off ebay so that got me thinking, whats needed for stage 2? and how much more power am i looking at with stage 2 over stage 1?. Mainly for me i want a reliable engine thats not under too much stress, i want acceptable mpg and im still getting used to feathering the throttle with just 200bhp, not had to do that in the audi, just point and go lol.

You will need a downpipe to go stage 2.

Either a sports cat or de cat.

Stage 1 can be anything from 230-240BHP
Stage 2 from 250-280 Bhp

For Stage 2 I'd add a HPFP as a precaution (it can evenbe of benefit toa stadard car) and get some decent brakes, adding 20-30% more power will need reigning in. Oh and some handling mods to keep the power on the road.

thats the problem though its a slippery slope isnt it. Then its things like is the intercooler sufficient enough because at 280bhp i imagine the k03 is on its limits and is going to be kicking out hot air, so to get to a safe stage 2 were looking at another £600-1000 on hardware, hmmm do i really need that power in a fwd road car. The brakes are absoloutly fantastic as they are and its already got eibach springs and it handles bloody good too.
