Twin aerial system rns510
« on: February 03, 2013, 01:46:18 pm »
Hi,

The display in my rns 510 shows antenna 1 off and antenna 2 on.

There is no AM reception. I have taken the roof mounted aerial off and inside the circuit board was wet. Is this likely to be the problem or should I be checking anything else before I order one up? fuses, other parts of system

Cables in back of unit seem fine

Thanks

I'm no expert on this but afaik the 510 uses signal from two antennas so I would sort out the circuit board issue.
Also did you try swapping the aerial plugs at the back of the unit?

The RNS uses twin antennas

The fault probably lies in one of the cables

As said swop them over and that should sort the AM problem

you can also buy a 2 into 1 adaptor

Thanks guys,

Its got an adaptor cable on the back of the unit which takes both cables from the car and then without joining the cables just go into a double plastic plug which fits the unit. The single cables wont fit the unit without the adaptor. But they are still connected as single cables if you see what I mean.

There are tabs on the plugs which stop me from swapping cables

It was working before but has just stopped, switched to am and there is nothing.

Just wondering if this is a common problem? Tried to dry out the circuit board but its no different.

What powers the circuit board? is there a chance the water has fried something else?

Thanks

OK update to this, changed the roof mounted antenna base. (This was identified as antenna 1 on the system) And its now working properly again  :happy2:

Seems the water in the base had indeed corroded the circuit board enough to stop it working
