Blue Flame back box delete exhaust - Vroom or not?!
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:47:53 pm »
Anyone fitted one of these at all?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200894156877?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:VRI&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2661

I'm not in the need for a new exhaust yet, and don't 'want to splash £500-600 on a new one until I have to, so I was looking at this to see if it would a)look a bit better, and b) produce a little more feedback from the engine?

I'm assuming you just bolt/clamp it on to OEM system.  I'm not sure if it's useable with other SS manufacturers parts if I were to upgrade rest of system at a later date?

Comments welcomed!

I emailed the ebay seller for more info, very quick response recieved.

Basically the b.box delete is with a 2.5" dia pipe which is fine with the stock exhaust.

If you want to use blueflame products in the future, then you'd need to buy a whole new CAT back system as this would be in 3" dia pipework only.

So two options.  Delete pre CAT and add the b.box delete section and keep OEM exhaust,  OR

A brand new 3" shiny CAT back system!!!!!!! :congrats:

I think you would have to cut your standard exhaust to fit that as the standard one is one piece from the center of the car back.

The supplier said it would fit straight on.... If I had to do any mods I wouldn't buy it.  I'm not sure what the patterns are for the OEM exhaust, can anyone confirm if it would need modding?

If you look at this exhaust
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK5-MKV-2-0-GTI-Complete-Exhaust-System-/251224511399?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a7e25d3a7

The standard gti exhaust is only 2 pieces, any cat back system will replace only the rear half.

And blueflame do not call it a cat back just suitcase delete, I think you need to cut the standard exhaust just before the rear silencer to fit it.

Wow, thanks! :scared:  Glad I didn't buy it.  I think manufacturers should clearly state that mods are required when fitting such kit, or make it so it fits straight in.  I remember buying a front strut brace for an old mk2 gti, and you had to drill and bolt it to the front strut mounts/bulk head...... No chance! :stupid:

Back to the search for a nice exhaust then.............

I messaged Blueflame direct a few months back, just found the email.

Hi Matt,
Is your vehicle fitted with a std system or is the other part Blueflame?.
If the other part of the exhaust is std you need to buy a cat back system with the oem adaptor.(can give you a good price).
If blueflame no problem fitting.
Delivery 7/10 days
Best regards
Warren Simmons

Looks like there could be an adaptor to just use the Catback without having to hack anything.

If you buy a cat back from them then it is just an adaptor to reduce the diameter of the pipe to fit the standard front pipe.

The suitcase delete is just a replacement for the backbox so cutting is required.

I think a cat back is around £400-£500 compared to the low price of the suitcase delete.

Fitted one a few weeks ago, does require cutting the suitcase out.
Sounds a lot nicer than standard certainly turns a few heads now! :driver:

I put a system on yesterday from the rear beam back.
The pipe work is smaller at 2.25 inch but the stepping has actually give a lot more torque lower down!
The system had just the silencer and no suitcase rearbox it sounds like a jet!
Would defiantly recommend it to anyone.
Will post a video at some point.
