Look nice, good to see a sportier model in 5dr too - shame the ride height wont be like that in the flesh.

Does make you think twice about having an oil burner that's for sure... although the figures the new GTI's are giving out (which I take with pinch of salt) are pretty impressive too.  e.g. the new Golf R they reckon will be capable of 40mpg  (don't laugh!)

Looks very nice and much better than the Mk6 GTI or GTD, in my opinion.

But I don't much like the rear view and diesel engines simply don't excite me even if they do better mpg etc.

Only 184 bhp on a car as heavy as a Golf just doesn't seem powerful enough.

Do bare in mind the Mk7 is around 100kg lighter than the mk5.

With the torque of that diesel it should more than match a mk5 gti (stock) acceleration figures

Why so Robin?

Your MK5 was originally 200Bhp and this new platform is approx 100Kg lighter than the Mk5/6 version with only a 16Bhp deficit so i'd imagine the performance to be almost identical to that of a MK5 gti, which was powerful enough for you to buy one..

100kg lighter than the mk6 isn't it .. One of the big points VW keeps making.

For those GTD lovers its a nice improvement and a big step from the mk5 GT TDI which was top model at the time.

Not for me just yet, economy is always a bonus but I would still choose petrol at the moment hence buying the R

....Thanks Beddie and Gray  :drinking: - I didn't know that the Mk7 was ~100kg lighter, probably because I'm not interested in buying one and so haven't checked it out in that much detail.

I like it. A good progression from the mk6, but not too much to make it look instantly dated.

Looks lovely, probably the best "real world" Golf money can buy.

I was reading Chris Harris's thoughts on the MK7 2.0TDI in 150bhp SE form and he said it was plenty quick enough with that sort of power. Coming from him that sounds pretty good.

Top Gear's take:

Sounds like the car for me when they turn 3-5 years old and enter my 'affordable' budget. :happy2:

The fact that you like disagreeing with anyone helps too.
