sway bar bolts spinning
« on: February 23, 2013, 06:22:15 pm »
Evening all.been doing coilovers today on my 57 plate gt sport and the sway bar bolts on the nearside were just spinning sooooo as I was getting rid of the stock dampers I cut the flange of so I could carry on and get the strut out.
My question is if I cant undo the bolts tomorrow to refit to the new coillies will I be ok to drive to work (8 miles) and then order a new swaybar from the garage across the road and then fit the new one when it arrives.

  Cheers sean

You need to use a splined bit to hold the threaded bar part in place while you undo the nut.

Which flange did you cut off?  Mole grips on the inside collar of the link works well.

Most of the time with something that is a ball joint you can get away with putting a bind on it to stop it spinning.  Mine were all corroded so i ended up bashing a torx bit in to counter hold it while I un-did the 18mm nut.
