Orientation Lighting

Is is possible to switch the coming home/leaving lighting functions off altogether on a standard GTI?  I've already tried a search, but only came up with options for 'highline' specced cars.

Lighting the interior of the car is fine, but I could do without the headlights/tail lights coming on every time it's locked or unlocked after dark.... am I stuck with it?

I think you can just turn the headlight switch to Off.

Thats what i thought, just turn them to off !
never tried it though,
the coming home lights would certainly be a pain for a stalker or a thief i guess

Yeah, the headlight switch is already in the off position, so it doesn't do the 'coming home' bit (turns the lights on when you lock), but it still does the 'leaving home' bit (lighting the whole car up like a christmas tree when you unlock).

Indeed, it's no good for a 'stealth escape'.

Each to their own, but I just don't see the need for it.

As I don't live at Downton Abbey, I don't need my mile long gravel drive illuminating as I approach/leave, and when you've explained to the 3rd person on the street that you haven't left your lights on, the novelty has already worn off.

You can set the timing too so you can shorten or lengthen the time they're on. I've shortened mine slightly so by the time someone asks and I turn around to look, they're off. Happens very infrequently nowadays.

lol i changed mine to stay on for 30 seconds 
I need to buy a security light for my driveway as getting the 2 kids out of their child seats in the dark is difficult so it works great for me.
Always get a few muppets telling you that your lights are still on, these days so many cars do it so surprised people still say this.
I did have a drunk walking down my street a few months back, quite area so he stood out like a sore thumb, was about 2am and i was watching tv downstairs,
he toddled up to walk past my car staggering about the place and i pressed the key fob from inside the house 
was like the guy had been given an instant adrenalin shot,

whilst on the subject of coding, can the gti be coded to make the mirrors fold in when you remote lock the car and vice versa when you open ?
obviouslly you have to have folding mirrors in the first place,,,, would be handy to be able to do.

i read your link twice but i got lost on the technical part,,, looks way beyond my skill set.
I have a 2008 model, am i right in thinking i cant just code it through vcds ?
excuse my noobish skill set
