How easy is it to remove front bumper?
« on: February 23, 2013, 10:24:49 pm »
Has anyone here ever removed the front bumper before?

I have a brand new bumper, all sprayed and ready to replace the one I smashed by crashing into my own wall last week  :ashamed: - is there any tips to make this task any easier?

I have axle stands and a trolley jack to help me elevate the front of the vehicle; also a collection of torx crews etc. Anything else I might need?

cheers  :drinking:

Literally a very easy job. Slightly hardened on a lowered car. But still an easy task. Im assuming its a gti, but makes no difference really.

I would start under the car by removing the torx screws along the front where the splitter joins the car. I count around 8-10. Then remove the centre grill. This should be fairly self explanitory. There are 2 screws at the top & two under the plate surround at either side. This should then foward and off.

The next part is to tackle the torx in the wheel arches. There are 4/5 either side. 3/4 holding the arch liner to the bumper & 1 that is virtical. Then repeat the other side.

Then you should be able to pull from the wheel arch and it will pop off  :happy2:

Does that mean they can be adjusted with bumper in place?

Yes, adjusters are on top of lights.
