Oil Change every 6 months?

Evening Folks,

My sister drives a 57 reg 1.6 Match Golf. She does about 13k miles a year and is on time and distance servicing. She, like most women, have a fairly relaxed attitude to car maintenance.

The "Service Now" reminder has been on for the last 3 weeks and is now 12k Miles (11 months) since the last service. She says she wont have time to get it serviced for at least another month. Im concious that she has passed the 10k mark since last changing the oil.

So, Would it be acceptable for her to get the service done ASAP, then in 6 months time get a full oil and filter change before the next service?
Basically -Service ASAP > Oil and Filter change (in 6months) > Service (in 12 months)
This would mean 13k between services BUT roughly 6.5 between oil changes.

Any thoughts?

If it's not under warranty then it's less of an issue. If it were under warranty, you'd be expected to service every twelve months or 10k - whichever is sooner.

I'd have said 6 months is adequate but all depends on what you plan to do with the car.

I dont think my sister is too bothered about re-sale value etc etc. She will probably trade it in a couple of years.

If she has the oil and filter change at 6 months, i was hoping it would allow her to stick to 12 month service intervals (easier for her) even though the car would cover 12k-14k in the 12 month period. Must be better than having the same oil / filter in for 14k miles. That's my thinking really...
