Projector or Reflector Fog lights
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:26:36 am »
Just wondering what if any the benefits are of Projector fog lights are. was it just a type VW used at the time or was there a reason they decided to make them? and why did they go back to reflectors?

were they an optional fitment that was used when having factory xenons?

i have projectors, but my brother (same year different build date) have reflectors

They changed to reflectors purely because of cost. Projectors were standard regardless of Xenon or not until they changed over. My Jetta came with factory Xenon's, 2008 model and came with reflectors, I changed them over to projectors.

Is there any difference in performance/visibility between the two?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Not that I noticed to be honest as I never drive with my fogs on. Only reason I went to projectors was to put a HID kit in for fogs as daytime running lights.

as above, purely cost.  Projectors cost more money and vw needed to reduce the build cost of the mk5.  Projectors look much better IMO

I think only the very first GTI's got projector fogs, because my '05 has reflectors and it had only been launched a few months by the time I collected mine. They must have changed their minds very quickly!

My 05 has projectors and seen 06 plate with projectors at Inters, there is a period where it changed and cars are a bit mis matched (probably using old stock)
