Springs..and Shocks Again !
« on: February 24, 2013, 04:28:18 pm »
Hi All!

Advice / Experience needed..

I have one of the following options available to me.. I am after a lowered look with the most comfortable ride. Cheapest to most Expensive..

Eibach PRO - told I can use OEM shocks on these.. True??

Eibach SPORTLINE - told shocks would need to change. Prefer the drop on these but will the ride be similar to OEM? i have been told I would need to change the shocks unlike the above?

H&R CUP KIT - from what I have read the springs are a stiffer ride than the Eibachs. Need to know if the kits shocks would compensate and be just as good as the other options listed?

Bilstein B12 KIT - as the above kit but with Eibachs and Bilstein shocks.. Only heard good things about these but it doesn't come cheap!  Is the ride better than the H&R Kit?

Sorry for the number of questions but need the GTI to be just right  :happy2:

Thanking you in advance.

Rick

Dont see why you would need to change your shocks straight away with just some sportline springs. I have H&R springs on standard shocks with no problems

Running Sportlines on standard shocks and IMO the ride as been compromised as it is choppy at times, will be adding some Bilstein B8's ASAP to rectify.

So you think just go for the b12 kit?

Don't mean to hijack, but with harders stiffer shocks and springs would they/or could they cause more wheel hop???
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

If there's high mileage on your current shocks then fitting lowering springs will accurate their wear.  I have the H&R cup kit fitted.  Ride is stiffer but the handling is a huge improvement.  On decent roads ride comfort isnt any different to stock.

There is absolutely no doubt that fitting a full kit is the better option but it all comes down to budget.

Fitting just springs, most notably the H&R or Sportlines gives a nice stance and improved handling with standard dampers but if you are willing to spend the money for a full kit then I'd do so definitely.

My GTI is still on the Sportlines it came with and is on 78k miles and it handles and rides quite well for a car on just uprated springs I think. That said a full kit is going on soon and I expect a big improvement.

Thanks for the help so far.

Now its either H&R Cup Kit or the B12!

Its very hard to choose bewteen the two -- anyone have any experiences/knowledge they wish to share?

I can recommend a B12 kit. I have done other bits at the same time, but that element of the work I had done is perfect.

Gone but not forgotten :-)
