1/4 mile duel v mi16
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:22:49 pm »
Hi so I looks like I've entered into a race with my mate 1/4 mile at Santa pod stage 2 gti 250 bhp  dsg v 205 stripped out with mi16 187 bhp , I've clocked 14.52 before at York raceway with 19 inch Audi splits heavy wheels so the question is do I run with them or the 18 monzas ie quicker start but more spin ? Or 19 or am I getting my ass kicked either way??
Cheers andy

Think your extra weight might be your downfall, we all know the 205 was made out of papier mache (lightweight) and with that engine I would imagine power to weight will be slightly higher

A 205 mi16 will probably be running very low 14's, maybe even high 13's with nearly 190bhp. Sorry but I think you're right and you'll be in for an ass kicking!

Stage 2 DSG GTI should easily be capable of low 14's and possibly breaking into the 13's with the right driver and mods. Definitely bin the 19's though and if you want to get an even better result, go for a set of 18" Team Dynamic Pro Race rims..  :happy2:

A challenge is a challenge regardless of what you have. No-one should moan and both sides should be prepared to do whatever they can to destroy the opposition

Remove your rear bench & backs, remove the spare wheel and replace with a can of foam, remove the passenger seat and that lot will remove over 60kg from the car. That in itself will give you 0.1-0.2 seconds off the 1/4 mile. :happy2:

Short shifting from 1st to second after using launch control helps stop any wheelspin you may get off the line. Wind out the car in 4th gear to the end of the run as it will also help with your time.

Lower tyre pressure will help reduce wheelspin too, so if you can reduce the pressure down to around 22psi. Even better get some semi-slicks on there.

Always try and do a burnout if you can before a run, it clears the water off the tyres and warms them up a little.

Good luck! :happy2:

When engaging LC, it is best to back your foot off the throttle a little and bring the res down to around 2k before releasing the brake. If you use the default 3k+ LC when modded you won't go anywhere fast at all..

Agree with what John says about short-sh*ting to 2nd quickly. The car will have the torque to pull the car from lowish revs in 2nd and it's a lot better than using first gear and spinning your cock off..  This method resulted in my best times, everytime..

Here is a vid of one of my runs @ Pod and if you turn the volume up you can hear my change to 2nd pretty quickly (just after the Christmas tree lights)..
