Now that I have your attention.....

Anyone know of a broken GTI that I can scavenge parts from?
Had my car into the main VW dealer for a brake fluid change and apparently,the VW boffins say that my car requires some expensive bits.
They tell me that the air-con compressor has a major leak(but decided to regas the system anyway ) and will cost around £700 to replace.
Added to that,is my ABS system has decided to call it a day as well...here was me thinking that the ABS and tyre pressure light constantly staying on in the dash was down to a faulty sensor but,nooo,the clues are pointing to the ABS sensor unit that sits under the seat....£800 for that,thnkyuvrymuch.
So,thats £1500 for the parts and fitting,on a car thats 5 years old.

I love my Edition30,but I've decided that once this has been done,I'm putting it up for sale and going to go back to a simpler MK2GTI 16V(If I can find a clean enough example.)At least I can fix it myself and don't have to take out a loan to repair the thing.

I wouldn't get too despondent over what the dealers price up... you could probably sort that for a third of the cost with parts on eBay.

First off I'd scan it and clear all fault codes, run it and scan agin to see if they return.  I would put priority on anything to do with brakes.

I feel your pain, unfortunately both problems are common faults with the golf. My compressor went on my mk5 just after I bought it, fortunately vw fixed it at their expense.

I would speak to some specialists/independents get repair costs to a minimum, fix the abs problem, enjoy the car again, then get the compressor sorted when funds and the weather dictate.

Its very easy and perfectly natural to make the knee jerk reaction of fixing it and selling it on, but its a decision you don't want to regret later on.

iirc if your abs unit is faulty vw should contribute a good will payment or even do it for free. Get the fault code and go from there.

Im pretty sure if you ask VW main dealer that the ABS units are being replaced under full warranty. I know of at least 3 Mk5's that have had it done, one just in january and it was an 06 plate.
