Picked up some Castrol Edge from Eurocarparts for £40.

Took it round to VW for its annual service, plus the coilpack recall. They replaced all four for me.

All sorted for another year.

When at VW this week, picked up some new front door handles (passengers and drivers side)

To replace the worn one:

New vs old:

Fitted, much happier, I love new plastics  :scared:

Also got a ashtray of eBay, currently have the cubby hole fitted to mine:

Bit dirty!!

Neat little light inside to light the tray up:

Spent some time cleaning it up this evening and pleased it come up like new:

Then popped out to the car and removed old cubby hole:

Two torq screws and was out, new one in:

Nice little change to interior. Fitting passenger side handle this weekend hopefully.

Fitted the passenger side handle this weekend. Bit more involved than the drivers side as the door card is needed to be removed, fairly easy tho.

Unclip lower part of the handle, then unbolt it, lower torq screws and pull hard and its off.

Some pics:

Job done, much better. Rears to do next.

Also had a go at fitting my revised Rev G diverter valve on the turbo. As the car didn't feel as quick as I wxpected, plus MPG wasn't great.
I jacked the car up as took the drivers side arch liner out, easier to access it, plus gave me an excuse to clean it!

Overall really pleased did it myself, just took my time and made sure I didn't lose any bolts. To get the bolts of the DV was tricky, but got there in the end.

All this muck was behind the arch liner, cleaned it all up nicely!

The valve in question:

Stock B version:

With a BIG hole!!:

Nice shiny new G version:

Cleaned the arch liner (both parts) as it was out:

Can clearly see the difference, shame its underneath, ha ha. Will get round to doing the others soon:

All the muck I got out:

All done in only a few hours work, was good fun plus enjoyed doing it. Car drives MUCH better! Pulls so much better in gear. Plus when car was serviced at VW last week they spotted a boost pipe was leaking and refitting that for me. Could see evidence of this with oil on the arch liner so sure that helps it too.

Job done!

Great work Si - shows how it is worth checking the known problem parts that deteriorate over time.
Must fit a new rev G DV to mine - I've got no excuse for stalling (as I've bought the part), especially given the location of the DV on a K04 car!

Was hoping to update my thread & answer your Q's, but have some issues with uploading photos to Photobucket (no idea why!). So to answer your Q's on the open fog lights grilles - the ones I bought are as follows;

1K0 854 661M 9B9 (Passenger side, plus backing cover)
1K0 854 662F 9B9 (Drivers side, plus backing cover) - this was an Ebay 'New Old Stock'  purchase - maybe the reason for the variance in the code at the end of the part no.

The rear covers can be removed to run without them, if wanted - they just clip into the grilles.

Part no for the charcoal impregnated pollen filter is 1K2 819 653B

Cheers,
Dave
