common boost leak areas?

what are  the most common boost leak areas on the gti? Ive uprated the d/v to the revision D the other week and ive blocked off the pcv system but since i changed the d/v it is so much better but in 2nd there is a strange noise on full throttle for some of the rev range, imagine scraping your fork or knife on your plate and thats the noise it makes. Ive gone round tightening everything up but to no avail. I did notice the pipe that goes from the turbo to the intercooler i can wobble the connection and there was oil around it. I cleaned it up and sealed it the best i could with silicone. Im guessing since changing the d/v its holding more boost so its made another leak obvious, any clues? cheers

The pipe into the intercooler is a common leaking point  :sad1:

Cool, this hopefully is the problem then, whats the crack does it need a new pipe or can you buy the seals? i could wobble it where it connects inside the other pipe, cant be normal?

From experience most cheap Chinese things are sh*t. Except the beef kung po from my local china...it's excellent mmmm

I do agree with you but nowadays they dont seem to be all that bad especially for the money, and expecially on simple things with no moving parts etc. Is it worth giving these a shot at this price or should i replace the seals in mine? if thats possible?

my turbo was leaking a bit of oil.  i changed the DV and PCV thinking it was the problem.
Took it to Alex at AKS, he noticed that one of the 3screws on the turbo housing had come of.  so he supplied another one and problem solved.

I couldnt believe one of the screws had come loose and overtime totally come off, which was causing my boost leak.

which bolts are these? funny you should day that because when i was taking the d/v off i stupidly removed the screw next to it that holds a pipe onto the side of the turbo and i lost the bolt but figured that its only holding that pipe in place and surely wont be a hole straight into the turbo so i decided to leave it as it was getting dark

im talking about the screw bolts on the turbo housing (you have to put the car on a ramp to get to them) mine only had 2 when it should have had 3.  it wasnt air tight hence causing the boost leak.
i lost power when this happened especially noticed when putting my foot down.

i think Karl you just solved your own problem.  screws are there for a reason to make things air tight.
best thing to do as well is get your car on a ramp and you be able to see the turbo, check for leaks around there also to be sure

Ok, so i put that bolt back into the turbo and it hasnt changed anything, still hissing more than my mates gti. I did a log a couple of weeks ago and actual vs requested and duty cycle were all decent, so i think i will have another run tonight. The intercooler pipe pic i posted above i can actually wobble the connection, my mate had a look and said that shouldnt be a problem because under boost it will push the joints apart and create a seal, is this true? im not so sure. Its booked in for a remap on monday so would like to make sure its 100% before then.
Still getting a weird screeching noise in 2nd gear from what sounds like the boost escaping
