DSG or Manual?

Whats anyones thoughts on DSG or Manual. Always preferred a Manual but heard alot of good reviews of the DSG??

I'd never get DSG. Ok the gear changes are quicker, but you don't have the satisfaction of doing it yourself. I dislike Auto vehicles anyway.

Totally changed my view on autos
But dsg is miles different than a "auto" car
If you don't try it you'll never know
But you'll be missing out big time

Hmm maybe. I drive a semi-auto mercedes van, and it just ignores my gear change requests a lot of the time. So frustrating. Before that it was a fully auto-merc that had no idea what gear it should be in. I've had awful experiences. Even driving an auto car in the US was horrible.

If I get the chance to try out DSG I will see what it is all about, but I think I will much prefer the whole body movement required in a manual. Feels like you have more influence over the car.

I agree totally with PSW, I never liked automatic cars but the dsg is something completely different.

I would suggest trying one as I did and ended up buying the car

I wish I had £1 for each time I've explained that DSG is a far cry from other "automatics" and that you can drive in M-mode, use the paddle shifters and Think Manual! Far more precise and reliable control than any conventional manual transmission. Of course if you only stay in D-mode it becomes a boring automatic. D-mode is useful for traffic crawls and cruising smoothly around town.

The only way to decide is to keep an open mind and get a long test drive in a DSG.

After always having manual cars and reading reviews about dsg I was open to the idea. Anyway I got a good deal on a dsg car and I love it. Yeah there is the fact if it does go wrong it will cost a lot to fix but from what ive read they go early on in thiwr life and the problem is sorted.i absoloutly love it after buying paddle extensions. There is the odd time when it changes a gear when you dont want it to, but when your giving it the besns you will have it in manual anyway. If I was you I would have any, they both have thier pris and cons so look for a nice car and get it if its either manual or dsg, you will be happy with either

Manual with a shortshift conversion is VERY nice.

DSG is VERY nice according to most who have it (I've never tried so can't opine).

The only problem I possibly foresee with DSG is that your left leg may become, at best, withered; at worst, gangrenous and drop off.

I was thinking the same just before I started looking for my GTI, until my old man got a TDI DSG and after a few times driving it I completely changed my mind (its not like a normal auto)
and decided I needed a DSG GTI

But at the end of the day its ETTO as some still prefer a manual.

DSG. Well worth a test drive and far better than any normal automatic. A while back I had the displeasure of driving a new Astra 1.6 auto whilst my old Leon FR was in the dealers. The Astra had a bloody awful box, horrible to drive and unreactive and slow. DSG is light years ahead.

Hmmm I wonder how a manual R32 would compare to a DSG ED30 for instance....
