Paint or Powder-coat?

What have people done with their wheels? Paint or powder-coat? Went to the mechanic i use to take my tyres off and he swore blind that painting my wheels is much better and lots of others who were they agreed. But what did you choose and why?

Ive tried both and thought the powder coat resisted the brake dust better

i think the powder coat is thicker a little than paint. i love the smooth finish of powder coating but they couldn't do the the colour i was after so they had to paint them. i wanted to powder coat them though.

i think that when the wheels were previously powder coated they behaved similarly to painted in terms of brake dust however. just make sure you give them a proper clean with some bilberry or similar to keep them looking good!

was the same price to powder coat as to paint too.

Yeah same price. They will be well sealed and waxed with mutlitple layers before they go anywhere near the car! They were saying powdercoat tends to chip more, then lets water in and corrodes over time. Also made a good point if i kerbed them, i can touch them up if they are painted

to be honest mate id just got the BBS VK done in paint then stupidly curbed them and it made me feel sick. i was so disappointed.

i see what youre saying about chipping, that is true, but i couldnt take it anyway if theyre curbed i HAVE to get them re-done. maybe a bit OCD but hey, im ok with it!

i almost went up a curb in my VMRs today then after realising parked round the corner.

Paint is more durable, but i think powder coat has a better finish.

also depends on the paint and the colour etc i suppose for touch ups.  you would have to talk with the person doing it to see if it could be done or not depending on colour etc.

Proper powder coating should not chip at all - the metal will dent before it chips off. It's a far more durable finish than painting, but will produce a slightly 'wobbly' finish on the wheels - nothing major, just not as good as painting. Hope this helps.

This powder coat definitely chips as they did my winters which have marked in places. Iv gone for paint, hes painted my bumpers and the back of my seats and been very happy with them. They are only used in the summer months anyway!

Powder coat does not chip if done properly.

I'm on my 3rd set of powder-coated wheels. No chips, etc.

The first set still see action on JKM's Octy on track.

After having my wheels painted a year ago.. i wont be painting wheels again. Powercoat all the way

Powder coating is tougher, it's also easier to get a consistent finish.

Agreed...If done properly its much tougher than paint. Never experienced any chipping on the two sets I've had done.
