Front GTI Badge
« on: February 24, 2013, 07:36:53 pm »
Hi All,

Thinking of changing my OEM silver GTI Badge to a red one, but as these are silly money from the dealers, and the ones on the bay are smaller, my question is, are they that much smaller? Noticible? If not that much smaller etc. can anyone recommend one for sale on the bay that they themselves have bought and are happy with!

Thanks

Have a word with a member ( Name:   brookesb32) on the form who seems to specialise in badges, he could possibly help you in your quest.

You are too kind  :signLOL:

I am good with the VW badges but unfortunately don't have any knowledge about the GTI grill badges - which I have also seen in red on the bay.

I'm sure someone else will be able to advise  :happy2:

whilst on the subject can i ask a favour please.
i am after the vw grill badge - just the vw one - i am thinking of a red background with a carbon vw logo,
any ideas who would have the skill to make one up,
i recently bought a red back with a black vw one from the forum but the black vw is badly chipped, tried to get it off but i cant seem to make it budge and think i will break the clips if i push it more, is there a certain way to get them off,,, if so then maybe i would only need the carbon vw badge.
Need it to be in mint condition at the end of the day,,,, many thanks if anyone can help or anyone has the skill to make one up  :happy2:

I got mine from this seller:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3D-VW-RED-GTI-FRONT-GRILLE-CHROME-BADGE-DECAL-EMBLEM-/250858896447?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a685afc3f   (obviously I had to remove them from the bracket and re-apply them to the MK5 bracket!)

They are slightly smaller than the original silver letters but it isn't really noticeable if you take care to position them.

Be warned they will discolour over a fairly short period of time.

The VW OEM red GTI badges can be purchased as they made them for the American version of the MK4 Anniversary. Not cheap though, but they do last!

The front badge does come apart as that is how i have wrapped a couple in the past. You Need to gently prize the silver badge apart from the back by levering it up with a flat head screwdirver or similar. the prongs are a v shape so once you get started it gets easier to come off.

You could buy this badge on ebay [ebay]230931680490[/ebay] which has already been wrapped in Carbon, and then change over your front badge for the front of that one to create the red backed version you wanted. Alternatively if you want to send the whole badge to me i can get some carbon fibre effect vinyl, remove the badge, wrap it and then send it back to you.

I would be happy to do that for £12 (inc post back to you)

Here is one i did in Matte black vinyl over the standard silver badge so you can see the finish - which does depend on the underneath of the badge - so your might need sanding first

Thanks very much for all that info Simon, really appreciate your time.
I will have a pop at removing the vw from my badge tonight, i was going to force the v clips, glad i read this first as i would have broke them.
I will also check out the link you gave me and i will get back to you very soon.
Much appreciated and thanks posted
