Mike, your car has enough chassis mods bolted to it to make running normal high performance road tyres feasible IMO, just keep an eye on the tyre pressures and temperatures.  Too much grip will be boring as well.

But for the price of top end high performance tyres you could get some RSRs.  I think they are a great tyre.

Wondering why you're not looking at going for some MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup's after seeing them in my local rubber fitters today.

Just get some non-road legal compound slicks, a second hand set will be cheap and if you've got a second set of wheels why not?

think you need a cage to be allowed to run slicks on a track

Slicks yes you need a cage. Compound slicks you're fine without (well I've not been refused admittance yet :innocent:)

I dont see the point of slicks on a track day. Your not competing and it soon gets boring driving round everyone. It needs to be a serious hobby if you want to put slicks on, you will be by passing the point of track days before you learn to drive a bit.

Thats why the reckon the GT86 is such a great car to drive.  Not because its fast or sets the ultimate, but because its got the perfect amount of grip (from the same size tyres as a prius) to allow it to slide about and be a joy to drive.

I'd mention these:

(alphabetical order)

street tyres:

- Bridgestone RE050A
- Conti SC 5P
- Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (still a great tyre)
- Michelin Pilot SuperSport (225/40 R18 and 225/35 + 235/35 R19 only)
- Pirelli P Zero (no Rosso or Nero) and new P Zero Silver

"extreme performance" category:

- Bridgestone RE070 (225/45 R17 + 20'' only) - good value
- Dunlop Direzza Sport z1 Starspec (superceeded by z2)
- Dunlop SP600
- Federal 595 RS-R
- Goodridge G-Force Rival
- Hankook R-S2 (superceeded by R-S3 available in 2013 in Europe)
- Kumho XS KU36 (+ former KU15)
- Toyo R1-R
- Yokohama AD08 (best of class?)

true R compounds:

- Avon ZZR
- Bridgestone RE55/RE11s
- Conti ForceContact
- Dmack TrackDay (cheap/crap?)
- Dunlop SportMaxx Race (not as extreme as Direzza 03G)
- Dunlop Direzza 03G (most probably best)
- Falken Azenis RT-615K
- Federal FZ201
- Hankook TD z221 (new 2013)
- Kumho V700/V70a
- Michelin PS Cup/Cup+ (new PS Cup 2 coming mid 2013)
- Pirelli P Zero Corsa
- Pirelli P Zero Trofeo
- Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R (new)
- Toyo R888
- Yokohama A048R/A050

great Holger,
but i don't agree with the Michelin Pilot super sport, they were as capable on track as the Toyo R1R, and very easy to read from the drivers seat, along with no need to deflate for track due to the twaron used. So you need them a category down also along with where they are.
Magnificent tyre IMO  :drinking:

Over the top mod list ;o)

Any particular reason for you not to mention Michelin PS3?
