MK5 GTi battery spec
« on: March 01, 2013, 03:01:38 pm »
Afternoon all, need to change the battery but am unsure what spec it is. All the sites I've looked at either have a type 027 or a type 096, and I don't know whether both are possible or whether one would kill the car.

Ta for any help (I'm massively underqualified for this site to be fair!),

Rich

I replaced mine last weekend.  I purchased this one http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_2.0_2005/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444771008&1&36441fe1cffa4a94f59b90ec2277b73445b8ecfa&000020

£91 once you put in discount code off the home page.  Was recommended by most as one of the best you can buy with a 5 year warranty too.

I went for this one for the 2.0TFSI, slightly smaller than the one above, but was the nearest spec to the OEM I had.

Got it from Halfords though, wher it has a different name.

Mine came with a 72ah battery so that one is a fair bit lower than oem?

I believe that OEM is min 75AH. Uk.

But from past experience, with lots of different cars - fit the biggest (AH) and best quality you can afford, that will fit in the tray! You wont regret it in the long run.

Most modern cars have an awful lot of drain on the electrical system, even before you turn the engine on. You need a healthy reserve, especially if you have a trafficy journey.

From what I read they started with 72ah and some had 70ah but wasn't aware they went lower or higher than that
