strange fault
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:25:45 pm »
hi guys, recently I had a cam follower fail causing various damage to my cam, housing of the HPFP and also the autotech internals
now I noticed my lift pump was making a horrible noise when the fault happened and I though it may have been the lift pump causing the misfire etc so I replaced it with a new one and obviously the fault was still there and then I found it was the follower so replaced all the bits that needed it.
now the lift pump has  gone from a grind noise to Very noticeable whine inside the car and outside
the car does feel a bit flat below 5k and the fault found was a low pressure fault, now the lift pump was replaced with a used one from eBay froma breakers yard,  my qquestion is could it be the lift pump of a low pressure sensor?
I have replaced the autotech internals
sensor on the HPFP
lift pump
fuel filter
hpfp housing

the noise is a very unsteady whine?  100% not what I was like when the previous pump was there, that was a loud grind type of noise and changed to a whine when I put the second hand pump in.

any help or advice would be great
jack

Sounds like the used pump isnt that good.  Get a nice TTRS pump in there.  Shouldnt hear the pump when the car is running.

If its flat, then are you sure the camshaft is correctly timed?

You need to log the HPFP and the LPFP.

thanks alex, just seemed odd all these noises happened since the follower failed, I guess logging will sort it,  any idea of a rough cost of a ttrs pump?

Worth checking the follower again anyway.

Ttrs pump is £275 and in stock.  Comes with the custom made blanks ive had done to work in a fwd car.

What sort of labour time is involved in replacing it Alex?

Only really takes around 30mins to an hour to swap, run basic settings and test.
