Problem
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:25:57 pm »
My car went in for the final process today of fitting the Weitec coilovers....

My mate doing it was also on holiday last week too... hence just started today on it....

I went to pick it up and he told me the coilovers dont fit... the strut size is too small... so im realllyyyy peed off about it.. especially when the VW garage said the strut size was 50mm...

Apparently the GT TSi 170ps has same driveshaft as GTi......

This was really dissapointing.... anyhow... sh*t happends.... :sad1:

I emailed Damian... the guy who i bought the springs off.... he gives us 10% discount off his products.... with them being opened and over 7 days... he doesnt think Weitec we'll take em back.... hes gonna have a word with em tommorrow...

All i need is the bigger strut replacement... the springs are fine for the front...  hence i don't need to send the whole thing back...

Also... a problem... sort of.... is the rear arches at the top.... even with these Weitec coilver overs at 60mil drop... there still isnt a big difference to my old springs and there still is a large fair gap in the arches.... i need like 85mm drop.. or 100 mil would be better !!!

Can anyone help out here ??? i'm thinking i'll have to save up and get ANOTHER set of coilovers... which drop even lower.... anyone know of a type ???

I will post pictures tommorrow... hes gonna put old springs back on for time being so i can have a car to drive  :signLOL:

Look forwards to hearing from you chaps on advice !  - i need it !

Can't help with your questions Rich but thought you'd get more help in here rather than in the Rides section!  :happy2:

Hope you get it sorted, really looking forward to seeing your car finished, keep the faith brother!  :happy2:

Sorry to hear of problems rich but i think your only option are the FK coilovers....The americans say theses are the ones to get if you want to go really low

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=FK&category=suspension&product=HighsportSilverlineCoilovers&make=VW&model=Golf%20Mk%205

EDIT: hang on white rabbit is selling his H&R ultra low coilovers these might be good for you..

If the rear is not low enough, you could try removing the helper springs? (if fitted)

I have widened arches mate... so rubbing doesnt come into this issue :drinking:
