Staggered wheels...
« on: March 05, 2013, 08:34:47 pm »
Has anyone got 9.5j rears on their mk5? The set I want are 8.5 front and 9.5j rears but I'm concerned about them poking out?

Pics would be ace :)

Mine are 9.5 at the rear and 8.5 to the front. I'm running 225/40 tyres on the rear rim. Yes there is a very small bit of poke but mine is completely legal. There is also other factors to consider such as the rim's offset and what camber you run (if any).

Another photo but 'back in the day'

@northyracing - hello pal. No issues at all, but what I did fail to mention is that I have 10mm spacers on the rear wheels. This has helped as before I was rubbing on the shock absorbers!

If you want to upload some photos, upload them to photobucket then copy the photo link into the new post box. When doing it, make sure your click the little photo symbol and put the link between the IMG text.

I could camber it out more....tbh the reason behind the slight poke is more to do with the spacers, but I could camber it more. The rear camber is easy to adjust - just a single bolt under the rear.

It looks sick when driving behind me :) I've been through an MOT with them and had no issues...but I do have a friendly MOT'er. However, my wheel set is completely legal. There is ALOT of questions relating to poke and legislation. Check the link below which is sums it up and my golf is the example so you can see something you can relate to.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/12mKnLS-jBdCC3CVN_n31FPiScR-j2QZ5ZzgjkPZ2u6TlbncdCJTBJnaZdU7S/edit?usp=sharing

Yes the police give you a good look and but if you are legal, your legal. The legislation is a mess and until someone actually goes to court and creates a definitive ruling, we'll have this rubbish legislation saying put. As said though, mine is completely legal and would pass a MOT as it is.

You can of course camber it out etc etc.

I could have gone for the new 0.06's in 9.5 on the back of my jetta, but decided to stick with 8.5 all round to stop any issues!

Still not sure which direction to go onthe 0.05s on my Jetta...my current 18s are close already at the back and im really not understanding this whole camber adjusting bit...my rears seem to be cambered in nicely after lowering...
