New alloy update

Happy days, got my Brand new alloy today , (not Upsey daisy in pic!)



Guess who acidently forgot to take his tire pressure valve locking key with them so they couldnt take the alloy off the old

rubber

Ended up taking both new alloy away in a box so ive scored a spare alloy  , but on the downside, i  new rubber for

both front tires as both outer treads are now on 2mm.

Question is which rubber, i have sportmax on the rears at present but want a reletively quiet tyre with decent grip???? engineer

recommended toyo R1's but they would wear out in 5 minutes for town commuting etc. Perhaps Michelins????

thoughts anyone???? which rubber is best?

As for tyres, I would highly recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, quiet, fantastic grip wet and dry and they even look great!
My fav tyre.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas perhaps ?  Hurdy rates them "very good" so far 

Cheaper than Michelins and have a lot of good reviews by Scooby drivers 

Rated as the best subjective "on the road tyre" in the EVO Golf GTI tyre test last year

How do you rate the Dunlop Sportmaxx ????  My new car has them ......

You might change your mind when you see the price. 

You have to pay a bit extra for the "good 'uns",  just like we all did for our GTI's!

On my last 3 cars, (TT Roadster 225, A3 3.2 and S4 4.2) I have swapped bwtween Conti' 3's, Dunlops and then Michelins, the Michelins were by far the much better tyre.

I believe the PS2's last a lot longer as well so it is all relative.

Conti's don't seem to last too long (well on my car )

Guy at the place I got the wheels and tyres from rates the Vredestein Ultracs very highly and sell more of them on sports hatches than any other tyre at the moment.

I must say they are loads better than the Conti 2's and 3's for dry and wet grip. Wear  cannot comment on yet, but again they are about 10-20% cheaper than most of the other equivalents and so if they wear a little quicker you don't lose too much.

Coming back over the Snake in the pouring rain really showed what they can do and at high speed (but legal ) whilst overtaking and having a laugh at a guy trying to keep up with me in an Astra VXR (no chance bud!) they really did make the car feel safe and planted.....oh and I lost him after two corners

Another vote for the Michelin's from me too (I have the Pilot Exalto 2's).

90% of my mileage is motorway but I still have over 3mm thread left after 20K miles

Dealer had car in for service and scuffed an alloy, went ahead and resprayed to repair WITHOUT my consent.

They colour matched near as dam it but ive scored that wheel aswell as my new one

Just got goodyear assymetrics on the new alloys and they are tops, well done with the wheel deal too
