My Lottery numbers came up!! :)
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:13:50 pm »
Dyno Lottery that is!

Today I attended a Dorset Modified Car Clud dyno-day down at Regal, Southampton, which I thought I'd do as a laugh to just compare the results from JKM.

Yes that say 381.2bhp!

The whole process is totally different to what JKM do, strapping down, way the car is driven etc. etc.

But just shows you what a joke this dyno'ing is, and I for one won't be running my car on a dyno again... Doesn;t seem there's an accurate way of doing it...

Only difference, was a new turbo seal(discharge pipe) and the handbrake adjusted so it wasn't lifting out the rollers like JKM.

TAT Dyno? Is that the same system as Statllers?

I make ur transmission losses to be 120bhp!

Wheel power plot might be bit closer to reality with peak of around 280bhp

Would you take 25% losses?

Nope. Not for a 2WD car.

I always had a view that a car would lose a fixed amount of transmission loss. Don't really get why it would increase if outright bhp has increased. For instance I used to see 50bhp as max loss on a FWD car. The transmission system isn't that inefficient !!!! 4WD loses more of course.

Dom - if you make any more mods you will want the map setting up / logging on the dyno? Never say never

With losses like that I reckon id be 450bhp on that dyno! I'm running 340fwhp, not 280fwhp!

TAT software varies from dyno to dyno, but usually WHP is more accurate than BHP as it is read directly and not calculated. :happy2:
Golf R gone.

I don't need anymore power, 290@wheels is plenty and with suspension sorted will be good fun...

So, in simple layman's terms (so I can understand it) how did your dyno results compare with those very recently at JKM, Dom?

Here's a few questions, do you think that a gearbox/drivetrain saps a set amount of power or a percentage of the power made? Does a gearbox/drivetrain loss measured during coasting down equal the same loss made under acceleration?

I dunno, you tell us you're the expert!  :notworthy: :P

 :signLOL:

Regal were on about coasitng down through the rev range as it varies through... but 90bhp transmission loses? Laughable.

Robin, JKM was 318.2bhp (but Jim admits that if I allow for this and that I'd get a different result...) So I paid my £35 for what, not a true result thats for sure... And just paid another £30 for an equally laughable result... :stupid:

The only thing I'm happy with is at the wheels figure(290bhp), as comparing to loads more graphs on here which have fly/wheel figures, represents approx 340-345bhp, which would be around what I expected.

Lets start a campaign for power @ wheels to be used as the true measurement of a cars power. (Like in the USA)
