Thinking of have stage 1
« on: March 11, 2013, 12:49:21 pm »
Had the car for 6 years now, still makes me smile when you give it the beans. Standard car and kept it mint with 45k on clock.
Seriously thinking of having a map done now the value of the car has come down a bit.
Everybody seems to have good things to say but there must be some downsides / nightmares people have had.
people views / experience require please.
Wheres the best place? I'm in Derby.

Stage 1 is the best thing to happen to my GTi. I had it done at 3 years old and 50k. I got a JabbaSport remap which transformed the car.

The only thing you will need to change is the DV valve as it will let go!

Another vote for R-Tech. You won't get better service or value for money elsewhere  :notworthy:

Give them a call and leave a message if you don't get through (the workshop is noisy so they don't always hear the phone)

What sort of power increase will you see from stage 1 there is a place I know that's doing a company called ELITE recaps and they say a stage one is 240 bhp would this be about right

240 is about right for a K03 TFSI, it alters slightly from tuner to tuner and car to car, torque is quite a bit different from different companies though, probably range from 240lb/ft to 320lb/ft+... but remember to think about that clutch.
Choose any of the decent tuners and you'll experience a VERY noticeable change in the GTI's character/performance.  I would also recommend having a Revision G DV fitted at the same time; part is about £30, and takes about 20mins or so to fit.  It will ensure you get the very best from your tune from day one. :happy2:

I put the rev g in about a month ago as my original was knackered. Do the clutches go quite quickly once mapped the torque of this particular map is 258lb/ft

258lb/ft, same as my old Aero when it was standard, that had an epically flat torque curve though from the 2.3L; the K03 are usually a bit spikey in their torque delivery.  The more torque you put through the clutch the less it's going to like it... imho a nice balance is around 280lb/ft, esp. when taking into consideration wet weather driving - which we get rather a lot of in the UK.

I would definitely heed the advice of others and go to a reputable place for your map, not worth risking the damage of your engine for the sake of a few £'s.

Go to R-tech you will not be disaapointed, drove a round trip of 220 miles for my map, was worth every mile! I live 5 mins from AMD but went R-tech because couldnt find a bad word about them which in this day and age is very hard! My cars 243 bhp and 290lbsft and its literally a night and day difference, absolutly epic, cant wait to go stage 2!

I'm also thinking of going stage 1 on my mk6. My question is though, is it safer and better all round to go somewhere like r-tech that has a rolling road etc, rather than getting a switch like a bluefin through the post?

I think I'd need a switch regardless for when it goes in for servicing etc.

R-tech don't custom map the MK6 GTI (different engine / ECU to mk5).

I think it's something they will look into in future as they are so buy wit mk4/5's right now.

They will do you a Revo map though and set it up on the dyno  :happy2:
