I think the GTI is staying, it's her Mini they need rid of?

Crickey, reading OP too quickly.  We had a new Mini Cooper in the family, they really live up to their naming convention, internally at least.

Ford Focus Cmax TDCI?  Or car of similar ilk, very easy to get prams in and out of the boot, nice driving height for the misses.  Mate had one which they completely abused, and other than being tatty (I don't think a panel didn't have a scrape) it soldiered on until they sold it at 140k.

Bought my mrs an Altea, just a more practical mk2 Leon.
Rear seats fold flat and move forward etc. Decent cars for the money
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
