Noisy heater??
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:50:40 pm »
Afternoon all,

I've got a MK5 and you can hear a 'flip/flap' noise coming from the passenger footwell, it's more prominent on re-circulation.

It's been suggested it may be servo related and that they wear as they're made of nylon.

Does anyone know anything about this and how easy they are to replace, I'm thinking possibly it's a dash or hopefully just glove box out job?

Thanks for any assistance.

Whenever I selected recirculation or reverse gear (automatically switches to recirculation), I got a knocking noise from behind the glovebox.  The knocking noise was also starting to get louder during normal driving where I guess the climate control system is regulating the temperature.

I removed the glovebox yesterday and found the little motor for the recirculation flap 'jumping' when it reached the end of its run. I removed the motor and opened it and a couple of the plastic cogs have snapped off. I rang my local VW parts department to see how much a replacement motor was but they didn't answer the phone so I found a brand new motor on eBay! Hopefully will be here tomorrow.

Probably took about 20mins to get the glovebox and motor out, pretty easy really!

Had this before, something like item 160971647982 on ebay will be what you need, though you should remove the glovebox to get te part number and what the elbow joint is like

Few torx screws, don't forget the one under the heating controls.

Out at the minute, there's guides somewhere

Many thanks for the responses fellas, much appreciated :happy2:

I shall give it a go and report back.

As a novice I suspect it may take me more than the 20 minutes as one person suggested!

Having looked at the link too, any suggestions/tips?

Really appreciate the assistance all, cheers

Yep, that's the one. Seems to be a very common problem, some suggest VAGCOM and re-setting flaps etc, some suggest taking the glovebox out and looking at the motor/putting it back on.
