Hey all...
So the first proper update since the car had been back on the road..
The reason for the delay is that I have been away for the last 4 weeks, so only drove the car for one day before leaving.. Now I have been back a day or so I have had chance to get some more pics and drive the car a little more!
Before I do anything ill apologise for the TERRIBLE pictures, it was getting dark again but I wanted to get some shots up today..
First jobs when I was back was to finish off the heat protection on the intake and DV recirc pipe, these are both very important to keep cool, and with the intake pipe running above the manifold and the recirc pipe running along side the engine both are subject to lots of heat soak!
Heres a pic of what they look like now..
I have already had numerous comments about the fact it looks like its been covered in tin foil but its really not lol.. The main areas are wrapped with the ceramic heat matting from Zircotec, which works amazingly well!! And the rest in high temperature silver tape, which I ‘acquired’ on my last trip out!
The results seem very promising, with the intake pipe being cool to the touch after a long drive with mixed conditions, stopping in traffic and WOT etc.. So im pleased with that!!
And some pictures of that lovely manifold.. Its going all sorts of interesting colours now!!
The engine bay still needs lots of work, at the moment its really nothing to look at.. Unless you know what your looking for anyways that is..
I have some plans to change that, lots of small bits but should really make it look special.. Not bling at all, just purposeful looking.. All go..
Next was to drop the oil again, we went with a fully synthetic oil now.. That will stay in for another 1000miles then drop it again and from then on the oil will be changed every 2-3k miles..
The VW Racing brake package was also fitted to the car, these were the brakes that had been on my Golf.. There pretty amazing to be honest.. And the S3 has really benefited from them.. Have a little more confidence that it will stop now! Something that’s good to know when its this quick!
And another picture of the interior..
I think that the Recaro Pole positions look great in the car, really suit the standard interior.. After all these are the same seats that all of VAG use in the first test cars for on track activities, so there kind of OEM lol..
Now a couple of pics of the car..
Still really not sure about the Red wheels, but sometimes I like them.. 99% sure that im going to change to textured black powder coat pretty soon but for now there are some other bits that I would rather get sorted out first..
And probably the thing that most of you have been waiting for..
This is 2nd and 3rd gear, running 1.5 bar boost revving to around 7200rpm in 2nd and only up to about 6500rpm in 3rd due to lack of room.. Its only just waking up at this speed to be honest..
This is NOT on the public road, it was recorded on my friends private drive way hence the short run.. Ill try and get some exterior videos at some point, the only problem being that any camera struggles to cope with the sound, and its just distortion!
Anyways, enjoy!!
You can kind of get a little bit of an impression from the video, but a very slow gear change, and only a small blast in 3rd gear does it no justice at all really!
It genuinely continues to accelerate at that rate through the whole of 4th and 5th gear!!
So that’s about it for now..
The next thing is to take the trip to Revo and get the car mapped specifically for this turbo kit and make the most of the hardware.. At the moment the car is running a map which was based around a GT3071R turbo running a logger type ATP manifold.. So for sure there is a huge amount to come..
I think going to 1.8 bar and exploring the timing and AFR we will see another 75hp at least over what its running now.. Im thinking around 525hp at that point.. Which will be the limit of the stock LP fuel system and RS4 injectors..
So until there is something out there which will offer more fuel then that will be it.. Still, not bad!!
