Hmm.. The only things that I paid anyone to do on my Golf was fit the brakes and remove the AC, apart from that I did it all myself.. Stop talking S*it..

In a couple of hours.. Engine is going to come out anyways to do the turbo, so if it needs a block then most of that work is already done

Never used a t04r or know any specs on it but seeing a t04z is larger than a standard gt3582 then i wouldn't recommend any on a 2l road car.
jonny you won't need a new block,just rebore the one you have .

The T04R is kinda like a half way house between the GT30 and the GT35 - with a well spec'd turbo it could be usefull

jonny you won't need a new block,just rebore the one you have .

How can you say that without looking at the block ??

The piston could have scored the block badly, it could have done anything !

Am not havin a dig jonny just that a think this project is a bit more difficult and special compared to the ed30? So fair play if all that ur not doing in the audi is the a/c and the brakes.

Sorry mate, thought you were.. Get a lot of it unfortunately, people thinking I have more money than sense, and I really dont.. So anyways never mind..

Yes this is a pretty major project, but im working through it and have a pretty clear plan of whats going to happen and when.. Hopefully the car will be back on the road in a few weeks, by then it will have all of the exterior and interior stuff done too..

Stage 2 of the project will be a little way off yet, but im looking forward to that also..

Nae probs sometimes its hard to get across a bit of banter without it soundin like theres attitude in it. Looking forward to the results.  :drinking:. A hope the guy you bought it off of nexts sh*t is a hedgehog!!!

It's not as if the rod has gone threw the block is it! My betting is that it's a cracked piston due to det/heat build up.It will have scored the bore seen it plenty of times before.
Anyway i think jonnys idea for a proper BT S3 is cool.I just hope it gets done right.

This looks like it is going to be a fantastic project…. I can’t wait to see how this pans out; I think its going to be great having such a powerful modern VAG car in the UK.

From first hand experience I agree with Ryan_Evo on the power that the GT3076 will make but I totally understand your worries about having a Turbo that takes a lifetime to spool.
Actually we have a customer with a 2.0 YB cosworth and a  GT3076 turbo fitted, This is a seriously fast classic Ford (It was GPS clocked at 180 MPH twice at Bruntingthorpe proving ground in the wet!)  however the power delivery by the GT3076 is a bit on the laggy side and the owner agrees.
 On a Different 2.0 engine with a different design manifold etc etc the response may well improve.
The same turbo is fitted to another of our customers on a 2.9 Litre VR6 Turbo – it is very responsive on this engine – but obviously the engines capacity increase is the main contributing factor here.

Keep at it Jonny this is going to be such a great fun car!…. Out of interest where has the car gone to have the engine pulled apart?

proberly will need the cyl head re-skimming aswell. There will be damage to the head especially around the spark plug area in the head if the pistons detonated.The alloy will have proberly melted to the side walls of the cylinder and maybe honed out to an oversized piston if your lucky. These lightweight alloy engines will damage. Untill the Piston see's daylight, no one will be able to guess how much needs doing.

Other factor is how long has this damage been there??. If its been getting worse over time,and power lose hasnt been investigated sooner, then could be un salvageable. Even crank damage is possible on the problem cylinder.

I always skim the head as a matter of course.I would not agree on damaged to the head due to det unless the mapping was horrendous.Agreed there could be more damage but i still think the block will be salvageable.

No....I've looked :grin:

No it will help everything.. Spool will be sooner, more low down torque etc..

Think a good stroker kit is a while away on these motors yet, one step at a time I guess..
