This topic came up a while back. I think they were trying to ban all non approved mods. I'm sure most of our mods are certified somehow. So its not as bad as the shocking headline.

 

Was asking if the worst case scenario did happen, would you keep your current car or look for something with more power

Ah ok. Would keep it as standard  I had it as standard until last month anyway and was happy (2 years).

I cant think why the government would ever do this? What does it achieve? Apart from destroying a huge industry!

Honestly, I'd sell up. No point having a car to modify if you can't. Always fancied a E92 M3.

I may have got this wrong but aren't mods banned a few European countries such as France?

I cant ever see them banning them but it wouldn't surprise me if they were tightly regulated ie cars had to be inspected by VOSA when mods are carried out not just at MOT and they started to whack the tax up, Is there not an argument as to why someone with say a 300bhp Gti pays the same tax as someone with a stock car? (i'm not in favour of this by the way)

^ tis a very good point about the tax... that would probably kill off the ecu tuners... If there's anyway our government can introduce more tax they will at some point.

Surely it would be near on impossible for them to police it anyways! How would they know whats stock? And where would you draw the line? Stereo? Hands free kit? Leather upgrade? A change from 17"monzas to BBS CH etc. its a load of bull!

I assume anyone with half a motoring brain that's qualified to do MOT's and the like could spot most performance mods but there'd be a few especially cosmetic stuff that may be harder to prove.

Believe me if they were going to tax it in some way they'd find them.
