I watched the video, it looks easy enough to do, but I don't want to go messing around with my fuel pump. I'm no mechanic. Could this be causing the diesel type noise? I dunno. I'm actually worried about this...
It's as easy as it looks...the toughest thing can be unplugging the wiring ;)
Some have reported the noise, yes. The worst thing about this failure is that you never get a warning by the CEL's until it is too late...way too late ;(

Yeah, you are already there, right? VW should've included this in the service intervals...IDK why not. Include it in your routine like at 50k, 60k, or 70k miles.

After earlier posts about this issue, I changed mine on my Ed30. Its not a high mileage car, but for £30 or so its a no briner to swap. Mine was just starting to show signs of the black coating wearing.

After swapping it the engine is noticeably quieter.

For a 15 min, super easy job to swap *, its a no brainer to put your mind at ease. And remember, its not mileage its the number of revs the engine has done that wears the part.

*I wouldn't be bothered swapping the O ring, its £16 + VAT!

Alright, when I get paid at the end of the month, I will order one. I've had the car a month and I've already swapped the DV, got the PCV to go on this weekend and now a cam-follower. So much for “the car got everything it needed from the previous owner” spiel I was told from the garage.

Cheers guys, I'll just order the cam follower up then.

Mine is a Sept 2005 model, just about to click round to 90K. So for the money will do it. Going to get a DV too, the revised G part number one.

Might add this to my list of maintenance parts.

Part number: 06D 109 309C (circa £35)

People recommend changing the o-ring seal too? P/N 06E 127 248

Si
I've changed quite a few of these now and it really is simple.

Stupid question alert...........What is this o-ring seal/where is it? :ashamed:

Thats correct re the seal. As long as you are reasonably careful the O ring should be fine - there's no high pressure oil around anyway there AFAIK, the folower is lubed by spray and mist from the cam area.

If I am going ahead and replacing it, where can I get some engine lubrication from?

This was asked a while back. Answer is no, Diesel engines have very different fuelling systems to TFSI's so dont worry  :happy2:
