TDi Sport Scraping issue
« on: March 20, 2013, 12:31:36 pm »
Hey everyone,

I have a Sport TDi, which has slightly lower suspension then a non-sport model, I think its same as gti suspension.

Anyways, when i get 2 people in the back, or even just my brother with his 2 kids, (2 and 4), the car scrapes when going over a speed bump.

Its really frustrating, as theres frikkin speedbumps all over East London!!

Im wondering would it be a good idea if i was to change either the shock or spring to raise the car up a bit in the back? But im worried the car might have an uneven ride quality if the suspension has sport ones up front, and standard golf suspension on the back.

Really getting to the point that i just want to sell the car, but I love the golf!

Any suggestions?

Are you sure its not s problem with the suspension which just needs rectifying. I.E worn out etc.  Has the car been lowered prior to you buying it without your knowledge.  I've got s GT with lowered suspension and I dont have such an issue.

My -35mm GTI would get over speed bumps with 5 adults in.

I'm thinking the lowness might not be the issue with yours

My brother had the same sport tdi. He just told me his one  didn't ever scrape either.

Its these speedbumps which are the issue

The other normal one piece ones are ok.

I'd visually check your shockers for leaking, and give them the bump test (to see how quickly they settle) & see if any pieces of spring have snapped off. Seems like there's an issue with your suspension more than anything else.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I took a wrong turn into work today and bloudy had to go down a road with these things on! Scrapped over the first then turned around only to scrape over over the way back. I had a mint underside until now. Luckily just cosmetic marks but frustrating nonetheless. It only effected the front as that is a lot lower than the back but still arghhhh!

I think it might be my shocks or springs then. But first im going to rip off that ugly towbar.  Could be weighing the rear end down as well
