You got to ask yourself when it comes to sell your car the average bod in the street will probably me more concerned with a comprehensive full VW dealer history.  Makes the car more sellable and you are in a much stronger position to command a higher price as a result.

An enthusiast will probably not be concerned as long as long as it has been maintained to a high standard.

I'm facing the same question. My car is now 7-years-old with a touch over 50k miles on it. I've owned it for 6 years and it has full VW service history. The only thing stopping me taking to an Independent is the convenience of VW offering me a courtesy car and also the fact that they are also pretty competitively priced.

Most specialist offer a pick up and drop off service.

You have a very good point there.  However I do wonder if the best compromise would be to get just the basic service done whilst I wait.  Then get all over work done at an indie.  Another point to consider I feel is that the money you may be able to command on the fully serviced VW car will be offset by the money youve spent at a main dealer.

I must say once the cars ten years old I don't know that the dealers will be competent with older cars the way perhaps a good specalist may be.  I'm by no means saying theres a right or wrong way just trying to have a good open conversation.

So I've just got some costs from VW for servicing my car. Minor service is £139 and the major is £259.

Anyone have any idea what a comparative independent cost would be?

VGS over VW anyday!!

They go out of their way to help! Week before last they did my service and DSG box service!

Sorry to thread Hijack!

But just a quick one, if you dont mind me asking, how much did they charge for a service and DSG box service?

Cheers  :happy2:

My DSG service at VGS was £150 and my service was £99! They are ex VW and know what they are doing, tbh would prefer them over VW even if the pricing was the same!

It's good that you've got a decent local garage. I've had mine in my local independent and I wasn't impressed at all.
