Brinkz Mk2 Leon Cupra R...
« on: March 22, 2013, 05:52:24 pm »
Well some of us know how the first one ended up after four weeks of ownership!!!

Anyone who knows me well knew how long i'd saved up for this, selling my beloved Celica and driving around in a 'W' reg Hyundai Amica for six months!!!

So I wasn't about to give up on the dream too easily.  When I got the call from the VW garage, who were quoting the repairs for the damage above, to say it was likley to be a write off (£15.5k they wanted to fix it) I got straight on Autotrader and luckily managed to drop on an exact replica of my car down in Cornwall.

For anyone who doesn't know, my first Cupra was a media car, you know the ones they give to the magazines, top gear, etc to test and review.  So it had every option ticked, including a very rare sunroof.  The car in Cornwall must;ve been built alongside my first one because the registration was different by one letter at the end.

So before it had been officially wrote off I made a call to Cornwall and left a £250 deposit on the car - three weeks later I was making the trip down there and picked up this...

A friend brought his FR to welcome it back to Halifax...

Bought some of these...

Bought this guy...

These...

And she looked like this...

I managed to get a decent payout from the insurance company for the old car so decided to put an APR remap on the car (anyone who wants to google this company needs to put GOAPR in).  This set me back £500, but I get free updates for life including the next stage maps if I upgrade the hardware on the car.  After some teething problems - they put an old version of the map on to start with - I got her running at just shy of 300bhp with 370lb of torque...

Straight away I found out my stock clutch couldn't take the torque so had to start saving for a new one - where this upgrade for the Celica cost me £250 I was suprised to find it would be £400 for the Cupra plus an extra £350 for a single mass flywheel, and without VAT!!!!

New parking space for the next year - everyone else is too lazy to drive to the top...

Finally managed to afford this and had it fitted...

So this brings us to this weekend and I fitted a shortshifter along with metal bushings - feels just like the Celica did now, but slightly different to fit...

And then these turned up today...

...along with this stuff, so they won't be getting fitted just yet...

So compared to the first one i'm doing a tad bit better...

Yep, from Halifax.  Is that a black Leon in the picture?  Revo?  I beleive there's two oranges in Halifax, my mates has a gloss black wrap on the roof and door handles.

As for spotting the Cupra, there's three!!!  Mine, an MY11 and my old CatD jobbie that's currently sat in a dealership on Queens Rd.

Make sure you say Hi when you get chance.

Clutch came direct from SPEC in the US, with import fees it saved me £150-£200.  Shifter is the ebay one, but i'm putting the stock back in because it's too 'notchy' for my liking and this is due to it been lighter.  the bushings are 42dd.

Today I gave her the 20k service (oil and filter change), removed the crap short shifter for the stock one and fitted the Evoms...

This bit was a PITA to fit on the turbo...

Am loving the noise it makes when the turbo sucks in all that air and then the flutter as you let off the throttle - now I know i'm driving a nice quick car (could always be quicker though...)  :driver:
