TPS - What is the deal?
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:54:59 am »
Need to buy some parts for the car and don't really want to pay VW prices - they are quoting me £60 for a DV 'G' in Bham (when I know VW Dundee sell the same part for £28!!!).

So I contacted TPS on the phone, point blank was told they do not sell retail and unless I am in the trade I can forget about buying anything from them. Also sent them an email a few days ago to which they have not bothered responding.

So what is the score? Loads of people say they just walk into TPS and buy stuff. I don't really want to drive 15 miles each way in the snow to be told they won't sell to me. Any alternatives or alternative ways of convincing them that I am deserving of their service?

In Manchester, we are fortunate in that TPS Stockport does sell to retail customers.

Is there a local garage or bodyshop that does have an account with TPS? If you are friendly with them, you could ask if they could order the part for you and TPS should deliver to them FOC. The other way is they order for you and they tell them the customer is picking up direct and paying cash.

Even failing that, ask the parts department at VW Dundee if they will post it out?

Also, just remembered, if this part is also a SEAT part (i think it is), give Dave at SERE motors in Belfast a call / email. He gets lots of OEM stuff cheap.
His contact details are on the first page http://www.tdisport.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=6628

lots of options for you fella.

hope this helps,

Rich

Phone your local TPS and ask they sell to the public. If you don't get any joy then order it online or from another dealer. £35 plus P+P on eBay from GermanAutoSpares.....

I can't believe a main dealer are asking £60 for a £35 part when the price in ETKA should be uniform throughout their network. Did you give them the right part number and not the Revision D number?

I can assure you I gave them 06F145710G and was quoted at Nuneaton : £58, at Solihull £62, at Bham £61 something. Someone got the same part from TPS for £33 inc VAT so I correctly think the local VW dealers here are having a laugh!

Just contacted TPS North West London - close to where I work and got a result! They do sell to the public! They also have the 'G' in stock for £38.84 inc VAT.

Emailed Dave, see what he can do if not a trip to TPS North London it is :)

Thanks  :happy2:

As all dealers and TPS's base there prices on the same retail prices that VW sets it is weird that they can all come up with different prices, maybe it has changed part number again and the new version is more?

Once, with plenty of time on my hands, i emailed must have been nearly 90-100 parts departments at dealerships. It was a simple query for a specific part. Think it was a manual for a RNS510. Anyway, the variation in price was really scary - some were almost twice the price of others.

Ring up birmingham TPS and ask them if they supply taxi drivers (they definitely do)

then supply them with part number/reg number/part description and they'll sort it.

They all definitely quoted me for the same part as I just gave them the number.

I would rather go to North London and get it from them, they were kind enough on the phone to want my business!

Just bought this from Dave (link above) together with loads of other things. He charged £34 plus P&P (but because I bought a few things) worked out cheaper than even going to TPS!

just for the benefit of other members, what was the price Dave charged you for the DV? Also, how much did you save overall??  :happy2:
