crack in carbon grill mask
« on: July 24, 2009, 06:50:51 pm »
i think ive got a crack in the grill mask. i know it was a cheapy from HK but bo##ox.i might have to have it wrapped now to cover it up.......mmmm along with the wing mirrors..../
it might be the fact its curve over the magnets for the number plate TC style but still bo##ox!

any ideas other than wrapped???

^^^ It will most likely be in the lacquer like on my OSIR one.  :sad1:

When you say expansion, TC, is that from summer heat?

:happy2:

^^^ Yes the OSIR masks me and Greenouse ordered are a very very tight fit, and for me as soon as the few days of summer we had this year came along the extra heat seamed to be enough to cause too much presure on the mask so it cracked across both corners.

Currently awaiting replacement mask to be made and shipped over  :happy2:

agree with you on the wrap....................but i have doubts as to how long this stuff will weather over time.

As long as the wrap hasnt been overstretched when applied, the weave does seem to seperate, and show the colour underneath. Ok if you have a dark colour, but on red/white car/ panels, it will look pants.

^^^ I like the look of the wrap and if it wasn't for how much better the real C/F badges look than wrapped ones I would have done the grille that way  :happy2:

....

Durability is a very good point and each of real CF and vinyl CF have their advantages and disadvantages.

There's no doubt that the vinyl is an awesome repro of the real thing and will fool all except the cognoscenti like us lot. But the giveaway is that it looks just a bit too perfect and doesn't have the visual depth. It's a heck of a lot cheaper though.

I've had no problems with any of my real carbonfibre so far.
