Virgin Media Superhub

I had loads of problems with the superhub with ours. Ended up just switching it back to modem mode and using an Airport Extreme. This worked well except even then the superhub keep disconnecting and would not re-allocate an IP. I had to reset the airport each time.

Gave up in the end and switched to Sky Fibre which has been not quite as fast but rock solid and not limited the way i was on VM

And sadly not as good as BT Infinity.

VM Internet in my opinion is great, never had any problems, always fast, I nearly moved all lot (TV, Phone, BB) to sky last year for F1 Channel, so glad I did'nt

Just make sure your Superhub power supply doesn't burn your house down.

Just use it as a Modem and grab a decent router for proper coverage... something like this

It'll still suffer the DNS address and start up delay in modem only modem too, won't it?

I've got the hardware to do this but during a brief test I remember it being no better off. I need the internet source to be speedy in establishing addresses or the delay will always be present cause it starts there...

BT INF. is fantastic... and better in my opinion that VM. VM has god awful upload speeds... no better than dial up

Yeah our uploads are a bit low compared with other isps.

Its only a small number of really old psu that were affected by that hedge, not the super hub psu

The issue is that BT/Sky all depend on how far from the exchange you are based. For me I have had the VM crappyhub in modem mode from day one as it's all over the web just how bad they are. But I wanted more than the 2mb connection that BT would offer.

I would also recommend putting the super hub into modem mode and use a decent router like the new asus ones. :D

We have a new super hub launching this year some time which is miles better. The new one will do both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi at the same time aswell.

Will it be a free upgrade and if not Russ, how much is it likely to cost? :/

I'm sure it'll be free if your current super hub develops a fault, same way my old modem developed a fault and they sent me a super hub..... Which I then put in modem mode after a few weeks of poor wifi

Booting Virgin to the kerb soon. They were great for many years and only went with them because I couldn't get decent speeds from BT. Over the past 6 months however, the service has been shocking. Down for days and not just once, there was a time for about a month when I think we only had connection for a couple of weeks. As for the speed, it's getting slower and slower all the time instead of getting faster. Don't even get me started on the Superhub........

Looking forward to BT Infiniti soon. Can't wait.

Sorry to digup an old one boys

- I wanted to ask however whether anyone has replaced their superhub with a particular router?

The reason I can bang in any old Netgear or Belkin in it's place is that aerial connection straight from the Phone/ADSL box where they feed in from the street. Is there anyway around that or some sort of adapter that means you can go via a regular router?

You would need a cable modem to be able to do that.

I believe you can use the Superhub as a cable modem then just plug your router of choice in.
